Date Night In: A Monthly Date Night Subscription Box Review

November was a crazy, crazy month at my house!

Such a stunning bride!

Such a stunning bride!

The Gamecocks won some games, lost some games. I attended the beautiful wedding of my dear friend Simone. Thanksgiving was a two state road trip and we moved! The moving part was definitely tough but now that we are mostly settled, I'm sitting down to review Date Night In a Box.

In the chaos of the last few weeks, it was good to take a time out to spend time together. I'll preface this review by saying this was a hard one to do, without internet and half of the kitchen set up.

What is Date Night in a Box

They make it easy by sending a complete date night to your door. This means your activities, ambiance, music, snacks, recommended dinner menu and more will be totally taken care of.

Our experience:

Our DNIB went to our old address right before Thanksgiving (my fault), and we weren't able to pick it up until after we'd moved, so we got a late start. This month's box was themed around being thankful. The Spotify playlist was great and the box included an instruction booklet, candle, mulled cider, pumpkin seeds, and a donor kit for Operation Gratitude. (Full disclosure: we'd just donated a ton of clothes, books, shoes and food to local non-profits during the move, so our charitable desires had been met and we did not make a kit for Operation Gratitude.)

I especially loved the "Thank you for..." note pads and "Thankful" themed pencils. I foresee us using these a lot, as suggested, to leave notes around the apartment as sweet little surprises. Since we hadn't unpacked the kitchen yet, we put our own spin on the date night. We talked a lot about what we were thankful for, including our take-out dinner. But, I love the idea of the suggested meal and the recipes are included. You can make any substitutions or modifications you see fit.

The candle and the yummy scent of the mulled cider on the stove definitely filled our apartment with the most wonderful holiday smells. My only complaint about the candle was the design of the tin. I didn't feel comfortable lighting it "as-is" with a very curious cat third-wheeling our date night, so I dropped it down in a ramekin to make it a little more cat-friendly.

All in all - I'd definitely like to give Date Night In a Box another try in December, when we have a little more time and energy to follow all of the directions and have unpacked dishes & cookware to make the suggested meal.
